In warm / hot weather many parents use a fan in the Nursery / room where baby is placed for a nap / sleep.
Using a fan is understandable and not a problem as long as the breeze (however light) from the fan(s) is not directed at the mattress, cot, crib, basket etc when the movement function is activated.
To explain, unlike some other brands the Angelcare Sensor Pad is extremely sensitive - they all monitor movement in the same way whether wireless or wired.
The Sensor Pad detects your baby's movements on the full surface of their mattress, from corner to corner.
Even the tiniest subtle movements all baby`s make that you can barely see or the rise & fall of their chest.
If you were to use a fan and the breeze were to even lightly touch/brush the surface of the mattress, cot, the monitor considers this to be a movement and it will not alarm if required.
The Sensor Pad / monitor cannot distinguish between the movements of your baby or the breeze from the fan.
Place the fan so that the breeze is directed away from the cot - this will still disperse the warm / hot air in the room and leave internal doors open to help warm air to disperse.
We would recommend that you regularly check that the sensitivity of your monitor is the correct level for your baby's mattress type.
Search for: "Four Corner Test" in the search box in this help centre - locate your model and carry out this very simple test.
IMPORTANT: the monitor sensitivity level should ONLY be adjusted if required. Do not simply turn the sensitivity up. By doing so you are making the area that the Sensor Pad detects movement a larger area. Thus the Sensor Pad could detect external movements from outside of the cot. ALWAYS CHECK using the Four Corner Test before adjusting.
In addition to this when monitoring baby’s movements you should not use a mobile, toy that plays music etc in the crib – these all emit a form of movement, albeit small on the surface of the mattress or the cot itself. Whilst the Sensor Pad is able to detect movement it is unable to distinguish between baby’s movement or something inside or attached to the cot.
Lastly, if you are using a bedside crib, moses basket or similar - you are unable to use the Sensor Pad when it is attached/touching your bed. When any bedside crib is attached/next to your bed the Sensor Pad cannot be used as it is sensitive enough to detect your movements on the surface of your mattress and may not alarm.
The Sensor Pad cannot differentiate between yours or baby's movements and may not alarm.
