With all analogue/wireless monitors/devices there is always a chance that eventually some interference can occur, this does not mean that your monitor/device is faulty.
It may be something in or around your home that you are unable to change such as neighbours WIFI etc. Have you tried using your monitor in a friend or relatives home to see if the interference is the same or better?
To prevent interference please make sure that the rechargeable batteries in the Parent Unit are fresh and fully charged for best reception. If you have not changed your batteries within the last 6 months it would be advisable to do so.
The cells depreciate over time as they are constantly charged and can give a false reading and also contribute to interference. See the following for battery advice:
The Parent Unit uses NiMh Rechargeable Batteries only
These batteries need to be used correctly, if they are over charged the battery cells that hold the charge can be destroyed and the battery will not fully charge, the Parent Unit can still show the ‘Full Battery Icon’
It is vital, for optimum performance from this type of battery, to charge for 15hrs before their first use.
To ensure the longevity of your battery life you need to fully charge and fully discharge periodically, this keeps the cell life to a maximum
If you are unsure about your battery performance, please replace the Rechargeable Batteries with 4 x AAA NiMh (available from all good retailers) approximately every 6 months
When changing the rechargeable batteries ensure that they are inserted correctly. See the following for install advice:
The Parent Unit holds 4 AAA rechargeable batteries and it is important to place them in the unit in the correct way
Firstly the very bottom battery section of the battery compartment holds 2 batteries. The very bottom one is inserted with the nub (+button) to the right. Then place on top the next battery with the nub (+) to the left
The battery directly above has the nub to the right and the very top one has the nub to the left.
It is a common mistake to put the batteries in incorrectly
To check that the unit is recognising the batteries and that they are placed in correctly see the following for advice:
Power OFF the unit by pressing the round EXIT button in the middle of the unit and place it in the charging cradle. The mains power will light up the back light on the screen and then after a couple of seconds, the screen will darken
The flashing charging battery icon will appear on the top right hand corner of the screen. If the battery icon does not appear this means that the unit does not recognise the batteries so do check
Also, have you tried changing the channel on your monitor? The AC401 has 8 channels to choose from and changing the channel can prevent interference. To change the channel see the following for advice:
Power the Parent and Nursery Unit ON
Press and hold the SELECT button on the Parent Unit until you hear a beep and the display shows C1 to C8
Press the UP or DOWN arrow buttons to change to another channel
Press SELECT to confirm the channel
Press the EXIT button on your monitor which saves your settings
PLEASE NOTE - You must carry out the last 2 steps to save your new setting or your monitor will revert to the previous setting
To improve your monitors performance please also try the following:
Always keep your monitor away from other wireless devices
Never operate your monitor in close proximity to a microwave, cordless or mobile phone
Reorient or relocate your monitor to optimize reception, place away from WIFI or Router
Never place a GSM cell phone or other Radio Frequency emissions device in close proximity or in contact with your monitor
