Can I use my Sensor Pad in a Moses Basket

When using an Angelcare Wired Sensor Pad from any Angelcare Movement Monitor in a moses basket as with all cots, cot beds, the cords MUST be routed through the base and secured safely away from baby as per the set-up information within the manual.

At no point should baby be able to reach out and touch/grab any cords or units. We appreciate baby is only small when placed in a moses basket but they still flail there little arms & legs about.

We advise that all Angelcare Sensor Pads supplied with all Angelcare Movement Monitors detect your baby's movement on the surface of their mattress and not their breathing.

Whilst the Sensor Pad is able to detect movement it cannot distinguish between your baby's movements or other forms of movement from outside the basket and may not alarm if required.

Whether the Sensor Pad is wired or wireless, the Nursery Unit should always be placed a minimum of 1m away from baby's cot.

You should not use a mobile, toy that plays music etc. in the basket – these all emit a form of movement, albeit small, on the surface of the mattress or the basket itself. 

You must be mindful of where the basket is placed in the room as it cannot be placed where there is constant footfall or any form of vibration albeit small ones that the Sensor Pad could detect.

The basket must always be static, rigid and not swinging. Do not place the basket directly against a wall, skirting board as it can detect movements from piping etc.

If you are using a basket in your room at night the basket cannot be touching your bed. When touching your bed the Sensor Pad could detect your movements on the surface of your mattress. The basket must be minimum 30 cm away, not touching or possible to touch your bed/bedding.

An indication that movement is being detected from outside of the basket is that when you take baby out, the monitor does not alarm after 20 seconds. We would advise that when moving the basket to different areas that you carry out the following Four Corner Test:

Firstly, the sensitivity level of the monitor should be at the same level as when you first used your monitor, if not change as follows:

If you have 5 sensitivity levels on your model choose level 3

If you have 4 sensitivity levels on your model choose level 2

Now:

Switch the Nursery/Camera Unit & Parent Unit ON

Gently place your hand in the furthest corner of the mattress & and wait for 20 seconds

*If the movement alarm does not sound after 20 seconds do the same in the 3 remaining corners

Remove your hand from the mattress and step away from the cot. The Sensor Pad is sensitive enough to detect your movement if you are touching the cot

After 20 seconds a series of continuous beeps (The Main Alarm) will sound from the Nursery Unit/Camera Unit & Parent Unit

Place your hand on the mattress and after a few seconds the alarm will cease as the Sensor Pad will have detected your movement

*If the alarm sounds when you place your hand for 20 seconds in any of the corners please adjust the sensitivity by turning it up another level and repeat the Four Corner Test again

**If however the monitor does not alarm when you step away from the cot reduce the sensitivity down a level and repeat the Four Corner Test, keep adjusting this until the alarm sounds ensuring that movement is still detected in all four corners

 NOTE: the recommended minimum thickness of mattress when using a moses basket is 7 cm
